Chapter Nine

Kayla lay in bed, her mind trying to regress back into panic. She had gotten through a delicious dinner of fresh broccoli soup, with homemade quinoa muffins. The main course had been succulent, thick, shark steaks cooked in some kind of wine sauce, with grilled eggplant on the side. Desert was fresh raspberry sorbet made with honey. The conversation of the babies had ended with the panic attack. Both Tristan, and Merick had been the perfect combination of attentive gentlemen. Merick hadn’t exactly made a pass at her during the evening, but she could sense his desire in the scent in the air, as well as his occasional light caress.

Tristan had driven home singing to the radio. He had dropped her off to go and get some clean clothing for the next day’s work. She had a feeling that he wanted to give her a little time alone to think. Pooze was in the bed beside her, his head resting on her stomach. She wanted Tristan to ask him if he sensed the babies as Misty had, but she had to wait until he came back.

Kayla took another sip of the stress helper tea that Trevor had given her. It did seem to be helping, but it was also making her sleepy. Despite her desire to wait until Tristan got home, Kayla closed her eyes and drifted into sleep.

Tristan was lying to her right, Merick to her left. The two men were gently rubbing her swollen belly, their smiles radiant as they looked at her. Kayla knew in her dream that this was her destiny. She was to be with both of them, and any qualms she had about this would only delay the inevitable. The children would have two fathers, and if she had more children, they would belong to Merick.

Pooze moved, grumbling about being ousted from his spot. She felt the blanket move over her body, and then warmth was at her side. He softly slid his hand over her ribs, as he tenderly kissed her cheek. Kayla opened her eyes, giving him a smile. She pushed back his hair, and chuckled. “Could the two of you at least wait for me to say yes?”

Merick grinned. “I wasn’t going to rape you or anything. Tristan called me, and said that the starter in his truck went. He asked me to come over, and stay with you until he can get it fixed. He has an extra starter because he has always had problems with it. He should be here in an hour or so. Were you planning on saying yes?”

She nodded. “It is one less thing to stress about. Surprisingly, I know Tristan well even though we have only been together three days. It feels more like three years. He is a very determined individual, and if you are anything like him, you will make me crazy until I say yes. Right?”

Merick chuckled. “That sums it up. I think I fell in love with you last night when I walked into the living room.
